JIAHERB obtains European patent for KavaKalm™

On December 23, 2025, JIAHERB announced that it had obtained the patent authorization for KavaKalm™. The core content of this patent involves a proprietary technology and method for separating kavalactones from flavonoid kava pyrones. This separation method first requires grinding kava roots, followed by extraction using supercritical carbon dioxide under different temperature and pressure conditions. Through this process, oily substances and residues can be obtained simultaneously for further utilization. Subsequently, the extracted oily substances undergo re-extraction and adsorption treatment to crystallize the main product, kavalactones. Finally, the kavalactones are used to produce the final product of microencapsulated kavalactones.

The industrial application of this patented technology by JIAHERB is expected to drive the upgrading of kava-based functional raw materials. On the one hand, optimizing the supercritical extraction and microencapsulation processes can improve the yield, stability and bioavailability of kavalactones, laying a technical foundation for their application in the fields of dietary supplements, functional foods and natural medicines. On the other hand, this technical route can be extended to the high-purity separation of other active natural products, providing a referable process paradigm for the development of plant-derived functional ingredients.
